LOSS OF SUNDAY TRAINS.
PORT ' CHALMERS SERVICE.
PROTEST TO DEPARTMENT.
[by telegraph.—press association.] DUNEDIN. "Wednesday.
At a meeting of tho Otago Expansion League, held to consider tho situation that has- arisen owing to the decision of the Railway Department to cut out all Sunday trains on the Port Chalmers line, it was pointed out that while on tho plea of economy the department was breaking faith with and senously inconveniencing its regular patrons, season ticket-holders and daily travellers, it still continued to cater for Sunday travellers by excursion trains, at lower fares than those charged on the suburban Services. Tho department sought to force all travellers from and to Port Chalmers to take its road service.
The secretary was instructed to forward a strongly-worded protest to tho Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. A. Veitch.
