PROPOSED WATER SUPPLY.

POLL AT MOUNT WELLINGTON. SUM OF £20,000 NEEDED. The Mount Wellington Road Board will place before ratepayers at a poll to be held to morrow a proposal to borrow £20.000 for the provision of a water supply for the district. Tho board intends to purchase water from the City Council, and the, loan money, if authorised, will be spent on the reticulation of the whole of the board's area. Tho term of the loan is to be for 30 years, and for repayment of a sinking fund of per cent, will be required. The proposed security for interest and sinking fund payments is a special rate of 7-16ths of a penny in the pound. If the scheme is authorised bv the ratepayers tho whole of the .Mount Well ington district will be reticulated, and tho mains will bo connected with the city supply at two points at opposite ends of the district. It is proposed to connect with the city mains near Ladies' Mile, Remuera. The other connection will be made at Pilkington Avenue, Point Eng land.

If the proposal is carried, the city reservoir at Waitakere will supply practically the whole of the metropolitan area bounded by tho Tamaki River, as its water will be, taken to tho boundary of the Otahuhu borough. \n reservoir will tie needed in the Mount Wellington district, the water for which will be drawn from the Mount Hobson storage reservoir. Jt is estimated that a pressure of 10011). will be available, which will be suflicient for fire-fighting and nil other purposes. It, is possible that in the future a reservoir may lie built on Mount Well ington, but this rests in the hands of the Citv Council.
