WEAKER DEMAND FOR BANKS

An increased volume of business was transacted on tho Auckland Stock Exchango yesterday, but tho tono of tho market was still weak, several Australian stocks again receding. No business was done in Government securities, prico levels being unchanged. A parcel of Auckland Gas debentures, 1935, 65 per cent., changed hands at £lO2.

The banking section showed a weaker londency. Commercials of Australia were released twico at 18s 6d, at which price further supplies were availablo. Offers for Nationals of New Zealand showed a decline of 2s at £5 10s. A parcel of New South Wales, on the Sydney register, was taken at £32 ss, but tho best offer from buyers at the final call was £3l 10s, with sellers at £33. Now Zealands had sale late on Thursday at 56s 3d and were available at tho sanio figuro yesterday, An increase of 2s in offers for Unions was tho only rise in this section. In insurance Qucenslands were released at 45s and buyers of South British advanced their limits Cd to 50s.

Loan and agency issues received little support. Dalgctys changed hands at £9 7s. Holders of Pukemiro Collieries increased their quotations 2s 6d to 52s 6d. Tho contributing issuo of Auckland Gas had sale at 18s. In shipping Northern Steams made a current price salo at 14s Bd. Tho demand for timbers was satisfied with a salo of Nationals at 9s. New Zealand Breweries changed hands lato on Thursday at 48s 9d and quotations in the brewery section were unchanged yesterday.

There was little activity in the general investment section. Australian Glass had inquiry at 25s 6d and British Tobaccos at 31s 6d. Colonial Sugars had salo late on Thursday at £3l 5s and were wanted at £3O yesterdav. Hohinsons Ice Cream were taken late on Thursday at 22s and Wilsons Cement changed hands at 40s 6d. In mining Waihis had steady inquiry at 15s and Waihi Grand Junctions finned with buyers offering Is lid. Mount I,yells were unchanged.
