TROTTING NOTES.

CANDIDATES WITH CHANCES. J. SHAW'S STRONG BRACKET. PRINCE PEDRO'S PROSPECTS. The Epsom trainer, J. Shaw, will have li bracket of three in the Auckland Handicap to-day, hia representatives comprising Laplander. Warplane and Stoney. Laplander and Warplane are recent winners "and for that reason alone the combination is sure to he in strong demand The soft state of Iho going might not be entirely in favour of Warplane, but he is a fit liorso and what beats him should win. Besides the bracket, mentioned above there will be another combination in the Auckland Handicap, as Stanmoor and Rockburn, both of whom are trained by S. M. August, will also bo coupled. The better of August's pair may bo Stanmoor, who revels in soft going and will therefore be racing under his favourite conditions to-dny. In the past L. Berkett has usually made his tiips to Auckland successful and horses from his stable are never neglected by local investors. To-day Berkelt will bo represented by Nelson's Chum, Nelsoninn anil Ocklcy Wood, and they comprise a very likely trio. Nelson's Chum is an improving young paccr whose form last season was encouraging, and Ockley Wood nlso has some form to recommend her. Caballero's Form. As a thice-year-old last season, Caballero showed distinct promise in notching a win and a third in three starts. At Hastings lie went 3.14 '2-5 to win and at Hawera 3.1') '2-5 to run third. Caballero is a well-bred young trotter by "Real Cuy from Lady Nan, who was a good marc in her day, and ho is confidently expected to do well this season. If there is anything in figures. Little Guy should have a great chance of winning (ho Onehunga Handicap to-da.v. Last season he won over two miles in 1.37. and also had a placed performance of 2.15 4-5 for a mile. To-day ho is handicapped on 4.43, and therefore looks to have a margin in his favour. When raced nt tho winter meeting in June, Trustworthy displayed a partiality for soft going in running a first and a second in two races on tho finnl day. and for this reason she is bound to bo in demand in (o-dny's engagements, especially in the Mount Koskill Handicap. Trustworthy has trained on well lately and should strip in the pink of condition. Belle Axworthy. Bello Axworthy's exploits last season stamped her as a young pacer of more than ordinary ability and good things are expected of her this season, when she should develop into a really good marc. Such a long stridor might not be altogether af home on a heavy track but (his will not deter backers from giving her solid support in (ho Avondale Handicap to-da,v. If she reproduces tho brilliancy sho possesses Belle Axworthy will surely make it difficult for her opponents. Toward the end of last season Prince Tedro showed unmistakable signs of being on tho improve and there is good reason to believe that ho will prove an early winner in slow class company. He may not be anything above the ordinary just at present, but he will only require to moot with reasonable luck in tho early atngea of (ho Ponsonby Handicap to cause his opponents serious trouble.
