LONG AERIAL CABLE.

WORK IN VENEZUELA

TO BEAR FREIGHT 21 MILES. Work is progressing rapidly on the long aerial freight cable from the Venezuela city of Maracay to 'luriamo, far below on the sea coast, where a modern port is being constructed. When completed the aerial system will afford fast, inexpensive transportation between Maracay, which is situated 011 railway and highway lines connecting rich sections of the country, and the deep-water seaport which is 011 a railway and very difficult of access by road.

The cable system, which will be twenty-one miles long, will run in a direct line to Portachuelo, tlien make a sharp curve (0 luriamo. It will lead from a height of 3500 feet above sea level down to tho water's edge. Tho system will be double tracked, with cars capable of carrying 2000 pounds moving in each direction at a speed of two yards pei second. Officials estimate the cable railway will have a capacity of twenty-five tons an hour. Passengers will bo carried as well as freight.
