TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY.
LAND NEAR TE AWAMUTU. PROPOSAL FOR SETTLEMENT. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN < 'OKI? ESPON PENT. J TE AWAMUTU, Monday. Advicn has been received here that the Lands Department has been instructed by tha Minister to make a topographical survey of the Wharepuhunga 168 block, nt Arohena, about 22 miles southVcast of To Awamutu, with (lie object of developing tho block for settlement. The area concerned is over 4000 acres in extent, most of which is tractor country, and is controlled by the Native Minister, Sir Apirana Ngata, who inspected the block himself a few weeks ago. It is contiguous to a considerable area of unoccupied Crown lands. Sir Apirana Ngata has made representations to the Minister of Lands that a scheme for joint development should be undertaken in connection with the lands in question. The supervising officer, Mr. Wright, has received instructions to make a detailed report in the spring, so that the undertaking may be fully considered during the recess.
