SCIENTIFIC DISPLAYS. AUCKLAND BOXERS IN FORM. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PALMERSTON NORTH. Sunday.' Strenuous and scientific boxing was witnessed at the championship tourney last evening. Two Aucklanders secured championship honours. F. Bruno gave a fine display and was a popular winner of the fly-weight title. R. Purdie won the feather-weight title and also the coveted Jamieson Belt and Cup. In the semi-final of the middle-weight class, Neale swung wildly and clinched frequently. Bagrie did damage with leifc hooks to the head and scored two straight lefts in the final round. Neale followed with a right to the body but was stopped by Bagrie's darting lefts, which fre*. quently jolted his head. Bagrie had a slight margin of points and won. An exhibition of pretty sparring wa« given by Thompson and Bruno in the final of the fly-weight contest. The first round was lively, both boys showering blows to the head. However, neither was hurt severely and the fast pace was continued in the second round. Thei spectators were aroused to a high pitch of enthusiasm as Bruno sailed in with both fists going like pistons. Thompson was not far behind when they came toe to toe,Bruno continued to force the pace in the third round and was adjudged the winner. Both boxers were loudly applauded for their game and fast display. The Auckland feather-weight, R. Purdie, met H. Johns (Whangarei) in the final of their class. Neither showed any liking for mixing it in the opening exchanges, and it was not until half way through the second round that there was any real hitting. Johns connected with three lefts to the chin in succession, but Purdie countered with swings to the body. Honours were even when they came but for the last spell Johns was sent to the canvas for two with a left hook, and Purdie followed his advantage up with lefts to the head. Johns used both fista to make up some of his deficiency and was not far behind at the end.
