TROTTING NOTES.

TRACK WORK AX EPSOM.: WARPLANE'S PLEASING EFFORT. EVELYN LOCANDA IMPROVES. The main dirt track at Alexandra Park was in fine order on Saturday morning, when some useful work was done by horses who will race at the Auckland Trotting Club's unemployment relief meeting next Saturday and Monday. Nelson Tasker (A. J. Julian) hopped away at tho t\vo mile post, and, travelling at a solid pace for a mile, was picked up by Belle Axworthy. The two raced together until reaching the straight, where Nelson Tasker asserted his superiority, to finish in front. The last half-mile was covered in 1.5. Nella Dillon- (Julian) travelled . a mile and a quarter, in a little over Bm, and appeared to have had quite enough when the post was reached. Gold Jacket (L. McMahon) went away at the two mile post, trailing Lord Haldane. With half tho distance covered the two were in close order and over the last lap the trotter mads a mistake. Settling down ho went steadily, to finish a couple of lengths behind Gold Jacket, who recorded 2.20 for the last mile. Evelyn Locanda (W. Nightingale) showed improved form in an effort over the Auckland Handicap distance. The mare paced very freely and finished up her essay with 1.8 for the last half-mile. Evelyn Locanda ran from the mile and a-half post in 3.27 and registered 4.3G for the two miles. Lady Ena was given a steady task but moved gingerly. The trotting mare has gone slightly amiss .and was not accepted for the opening day. Warplane (J. S. Shaw) and Arachne (C. Fairman) left the two mile post, the mare having a few lengths start. After leaving the first half "behind in 1.14 Windshield (J. McKondrickj and Chrystal (W. Nightingale) •joined in. Warplane and Arachne were together at the end of a mile and a-half in 3.29, and running home the next half in 1.8, Warplane had an advantage over bis stablemate at the finish. Windshield was some lengths away but her effort for a novice was good. Chrystal, who was not pushed out, also paced in better style than usual. , , Mignonne was geared np and sent over two miles, but was not asked to put up anything in the way of time. L. McMahon's mare paced freely throughout and is showing marked improvement. F. Smith put the hopples on Student Prince, and the relation to the speedy Dillon Huon hit out with plenty of vigour. He covered several rounds at a, sound clip and is quickly rounding into racing shape. Explosion and The Abbey worked solidly over a two mile journey, the former again giving a fine display of trotting. The Abbey, who is in splendid form, kept Explosion going at a sound pace over the final stages, but the converted trotter kept his balance in approved style. Mountain Dell was not bustled in an effort over several circuits but over occasional furlongs she turned on a fair amount of speed. The mare, who is in great order, appeared anxious to go fast.

TRAINING AT OTAHUHU. SEBISCA PERFORMS WELL, Matters were fairly quiet at Otahuhu on Saturday morning, when i the grass track was again available for fast work. The most striking performance was given by Sebisca, who trotted in fine style. Windchat was 'sent a mile and a-half, and, while she was not asked to register anything lit the shape of fast time, she gave a sound and pleasing display. Master Huia's task was a mile and after reaching the half-mile peg at a good pace the little fellow was allowed to increase the speed, and he sprinted home in fine style. Army Boy and Silver Link were associated in al2 furlong essay. They shaped well for the major portion of the journey, but stopped badly in the run home.. Sebisca, Gold Sovereign and Floraline went over a distance, the first-named doing best. G. Mitchell's trotter led all the way, and, although Floraline gave a steady display, be could not overhaul Sebisca in the run home, Gold Sovereign became unbalanced three times on the journey and his exhibition was not encouraging. Stanmoor and Trustworthy were sent together over a mile and a-half, each showing a useful gait, but they were not required to put up time at any stage of the essay. Reliance worked on his own and paced with a good deal of freedom. The aged gelding has improved for J. Gilland and his form of late suggests that he may yet win a race when the company is not too select. Judy Thorpe, who is carrying nice condition, paced smartly over a. conple of circuits. and will be an improved mare when next seen under silk. Dexterity, the maiden trotter in G. Robertson's charge, gave a pleasing display over a few rounds. With experience he should turn out all right. Kohara worked' free-legged and revelled in his useful task. He is. however, still backward, and it looks as if he will require time to be brought up to racing pitch. TOMKINSON'S TROTTERS. W. J ■ Tomkinson has a number of unhoppled trottors in regular work at Addington, including the four Australians. Western Voyage, John Mauritius, Home Voyage and Surprise Journey, and the young trotter Wah. Western Voyage was a good winnerin the early part of last season, for he annexed £I3OO in stakes. At his best ho is a fine trotter and the making of him Koes to the credit of Tomkinson. Wah. up to the present, has been a disappointment, but he is a young horse and has plenty of time to improve. TROTTING FIXTURES. August 30, September I—Auckland Trotting Club (Unemployed Relief Meeting). September G—New Brighton Trotting Club.
