WORK ON SYDNEY BRIDGE.
NIGHT SHIFT ABOLISHED.
FIFTY MEN RECEIVE NOTICES
About 50 men employed by Dorman, Long, and Company, Limited, on the Sydney Harbour Bridge have received dismissal notices as a result of the decision of tlio management to abolish the third night-shift. Up to the present the men in the workshops have worked in threo shifts spread over the 24 hours. In future, there will bo two shifts only, finishing at 11.30 p.m. The reason for abolition of the third shift is the completion of the heavy work, such as butting the chord joints. It is explained by the management that the third shift had been instituted only because of the congestion of the heavy work. The majority of the men who have received dismissal notices are members of the Ironworkers' Assistants' Union. Union officials express a hope that some of the dismissed men will be drafted on to other shifts.
