CONTROL OF BOXING.
PERCENTAGE PURSE SYSTEM. ACTIVITIES OF ASSOCIATION. [BT TELEGRAPH.—PRjjbS ASSOCIATION. J PALMERSTON NORTH. Friday. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Association was held to-day. Mr. E. R. Wimsett presided. Tho question of percentago purses for professional contests was discussed. An Otago remit suggested that in place of a stated purse a 75 per ccntago of net profits should bo adopted. Delegates stated that at present a £3OO purso allowed associations to put on the best contests. If tho percentage system was adopted, there would bo no hope of tho smaller associations organising important contests until after the cities had tho services of the best boxers. Tho remit .was lost by 15 votes to 4.
A resolution was carried constituting it a breach of the rules to make professional payment by way of training expenses, which in effect amounted to the payment of a bigger purse than was provided in tlio rule. Ths annual report stated that tho standard of professional boxing had been higher than usual, duo mainly to the importation by the major associations of high-class boxers from overseas. The secretary stated that the Ilawke's Hay association had been fined £5 for a breach of the rules relating to purses in connection with the Bloom-Morgan fight. Reference was made to the fact that the verdict of the Appeal Committee regarding It eg. Trowern's appeal against his disqualification for six months appeared in the Auckland press before it had been conveyed to the association. It was decided to draw the attention of the Appeal Committeo to the rule that it shall not communicate directly with any person or body other than the council.
