'. . . 8 1 THE AMUSEMENTS TAX. increase not passed on. CLUB PAYS THE EXTRA PENNY. Although the amusements tax increase is now in operation, patrons of the Pakuranga Hunt race meeting at Ellerslie today will not be affected. The admission, charges will not be altered and the club itself will pay the extra amount. This is in accordance with the policy of the Auckland Racing Club and of most other racing and trotting clubs in New Zealand of not passing on the amusements tax, or any other tax. One of the consolations of racing taxation is that as far as the racegoer is concerned it operates invisibly. If investors could actually see the 3s 4jd deducted froni each pound given to the totalisator ticket-sellers they might show some resentment. Instead, the process is one of painless extraction, the only one to feel any hurt being the racing club, which has to collect the tax and pay it to the Government. To-day's admission charges, together with tho tax to bo paid by the Pakulanga Hunt Club, are as follows-.—Out-side, Is 6d, no tax; Leger enclosure. s;i, tax increased from 6d to 7d; grandstand enclosure, men lis 6d, tax increased from la Id to Is 2d; \vomeir6s 6d, tax increased from 8d to 9d.
Last year the club paid £BO in amuse mi nts tax.
