MYSTERIES OF SPACE.
Professor Albert Einstein, the author of tho theory of relativity, made a new pronouncement at University College at Nottingham recently. He said he was on tho eve of a discovery of a series of equations which would show that space, with its metric structure; is the primary thing, and that matter in all its form is derived from it. This system of equations, he said, t would take in electromagnetism with gravitation and geometry. " My colleagues," he remarked, " regard my views as a particular craze, and J. have not, in my opinion, their support. Nevertheless, I have faith in the line of action which I am taking, and I am confident that tho end is very near." Professor Einstein went to England to be honoured by Cambridge University. He was persuaded to go to Nottingham by his friend, Dr. 11. L. Brose, tho professor of physics at University College. This was Professor Einstein's first public lecture in England since 1906.
