MARTYRS OF THE FAITH.
CANONISED BY THE POPE. Tlio first saints of tho North American Continent were canonised by the Pope in Rome recently. They blazed tho trail from Quebec to tie Great Lakes and endured every kind of physical hardship, and for yoars made their homes among the then savage Red Indians. The birth of the Christian Church in Canada wa3 the result of their work. Of these devoted men, Father Brebeuf and Father Lalemant wero burned and eaten in March, 1649, after baptising no fewer than 1300 Indians. Some of their torturers eventually died Christians. On June 21, 1925, these heroes of tho Church were declared by tho Holy See to bo martyrs of tho Faith. All of them were born in Franco and were- members of tho Sociotjr of Jesus,.
