POLLEN'S ISLAND AIRPORT.
Sir,—Land for the establishment of a commercial airport has been discussed by various boards. The Power Board expresses its views on tho matter and states that land should be procured as soon as possible and provision for facilities for air traffic should have our urgent attention. Considerable delay has been caused through:—(l) Which board should shoulder tho responsibility in connection with the project; (2) various discussions as to where is the best position. Inland sites have been discussed freely. They sound well on paper but we have to bear in mind that we have seaplanes besides aeroplanes to provide landing accommodation for. We have a nice, level island of about 70 acres, to which can be added as many more as need be desired at a small cost if reclaimed. The land is thoroughly sheltered, with a good road right to the spot. Here we have an island owned by tho City Council, six miles by water to Prince's Wharf, seven miles by land to the city, with all tho facilities required, and our engineers can with very little cost bring into profitable commercial use land which is now lying dormant. Some little time ago this property was discussed for this special purpose. We have not yet learned whv discussion in connection with samo has been dropped. Enlightenment on same will be of great interest to many. Land inland is too expensive. Would it not bo more advantageous to use and beautify our own citizens' property? Rosebank Road. F. Helm.
