POLITICAL PARTY SYSTEM.
MEN OF ABILITY WANTED. POSITION OF INDEPENDENTS. [r>Y TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Friday. At the first annual meeting of the New Zealand Political Association last evening tho president, Mr. Edwin Salmond, said the organisation supported the men with the best available talent as candidates for Parliament. Although not against "sario" Labour, it was against Socialistic legislation. Mr. 11. 51. Rushworth, Country Party 51.P. for Bay of Islands, said that men of independent mind were not wanted under tho party system, although he did not agree that it was possiblo to abolish the party system. Tho association elected tho following officers: —President, slr. Salmond; vicepresident, 51r. T. C. A. Hislop; committee, Messrs. J. L. Arcus, 51. 0. Barnett, R. 0. Burton, W. J. Gaudin, C. D. Morpeth, J. R. Salt, D. H. Taylor, J. N. Wallace, Captain S. Holm; lion, treasurer, Captain Holm.
