PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION.
COURSE AT UNIVERSITY, PROPOSAL FOR DIPLOMA. 1 A proposal to establish a diploma iit public administration at tKe Auckland University College -was submitted to tlia council of the college yesterday by Professor H. Belshaw, professor of economics. In forwarding his proposal, Professor Belshaw stated that it was his intention to recommend that the course be offered in place of the municipal lectures , now being given. In addition, it was hoped to establish a branch of the Institute of Public Administration, which would serve much the same purpose as the municipal lectures. The course was designed mainly; to meet the needs of local body officials, but it was hoped ifc would later appeal to- civil servants. Modifications to this end could be introduced. Eventually, it might be recognised as a professional qualii fication for local body officials and civil servants. An outline of the proposed course was submitted by Professor Belshaw. Tha subjects proposed cover two groups and it is, suggested that the course for a diploma should include nine subjects, five from ono group and . four from the other. / The council approved the principle of tho proposal and it was decided to refer it to tho professorial board and the education committee for consideration.
