FLOATING DOCK.
WELLINGTON CONTRACT. COMPETITION IN BRITAIN. (Received August 17, G.'25 p.m.) Times Cable. LONDON, August 16. There was keen competition in Britain for the Wellington floating dock contract. An Australian tender also was submitted, but tho British firms' offers were very much lower. Tho contract for the floating dock for Wellington has been let to Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson, Limited, builders of (ho Singapore Dock. It will be 540 ft. long and 117 ft. broad with a, lifting capacity of 17.000 tons. A Press Association message from Wellington says tho lowest tender received for the Wellington _ floating dock is £196,125, which is £125 above the consulting engineer's estimate. Twelve tenders were considored, ranging up to £281,000. Delivery has to be given in March, 1932, and tho estimated timo of towage for delivery at Wellington is six months.
