NEW MATSON LINERS.

LUXURIOUS APPOINTMENTS. The American Mafson Navigation Company* -which some lime ago took oxer the long-established business of (ho Oceanic Company, between Sydney and San Francisco, has laid down the keels of two passenger liners with up-to-date appointments. They will have each a displacement of 25,885 tons, and will thus be larger than any other ships plying in the Facific, with the exception of the Canad-ian-Pacific liners running between Vancouver and China. The new steamers will be equipped with two swimming pools, as well as full-sized tennis courts, and tho passenger accommodation generally will be on tho very highest scale, a thcatro for " talkies" being only one of the many attractions. Tho guaranteed speed is 20£ knots, and with this it is expected- to maintain a 19-day schedulo from San Francisco to Sydney. Each liner will have accommodation for 620 first-class passengers and 217 " tourist " class.
