GOOD TROUT FISHING.

IMPROVEMENT LAST SEASON. THE RESTOCKING OF WATERS. Trout fishing in all districts has greatly improved on that of recent years, states the general manager of tourist and heal) h resorts in his amiual report to Parliament. The officm 1 states that the intensive restocking o'i all local waters and the addition of new blood from the Tongariro River hatchery to all outlying lakes and rivers would prove of the greatest benefit. The quality and sue of the trout in the YVaikaremoana area was particularly marked. There was an abundance of trout food in the lake, which was the highest inland trouh-water in the district. The condition of the' trout caught in Lake Tarawera during tho closing months of the past season was excellent. Lake Rotoiti was fast becoming a successful rival to Tarawera for fishing, owing to the better facilities. Many now anglers' cottages of a substantial nature erected along the shore testified tjo the popularity of the lake. The catches at Lake Okataina closely followed Lake Waikareiti for the best average in largo trout. Referring to tho 'Rotorua lakes the report states that indications showed that ■I he cycle of diseased and ill-conditioned trout was rapidly passing its transitory period. If adequate methods were adopted to conserve and increase the food supply and complete tho present survey of tho thernnaJ fishing in regard to tho elimination of diseased and unfit fish, it was probable that Eotorua fishing would again be brought up to tho high standard existing 25 years ago. Tho finest river fishing was obtained in the Waikato River from below the Hnka Falls to the Arapuni Lake boundary below Ongaroto, Tho heavy restocking of the past few years was now giving great results. It was intended to do more clearing of scrnb along the banks, as in many places the best trout had their feeding grounds along almost inaccessible places.
