FALL FROM A TRAIN.

REPORT BY PASSENGER. NO TRACE OF VICTIM. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] • • NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. A report that a young man had fallen from the special train to New Plymouth after the test match at Wellington on Saturday was made to the Hawera police on arrival of the train yesterday morning. Tho accident is said to have happened soon after the train left Wellington, and while passing through one of the tunnels on the grade before reaching Ngaio. A Hawera resident, who notified tha police, said a young man was standing on the platform, and went to open a carriage door for a woman passing through. The train lurched as it entered a tunnel and the young man fell headlong and backwards. He struck the embankment on th« side of the track and rebounded with some force, striking the couplings between the carriage:!. He then rolled to,:, the track and out of view. The train did not stop until it had reached Ngaio. The guard was advised. It is reported that railway officials in Wellington doubt if there was a serious accident.
