RACING CLUB'S YEAR.

IMPROVEMENT IN FINANCES. { COMMITTEE AND STEWARDS. NO CHANGE IN PERSONNEL The annual meeting of the Auckland JRacing Club was held yesterday, the president, Sir Edwin Mitchelson, presiding. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, as published in the Herald on August 1, the . president said tho racing at Ellersilie throughout the year was good, the various events being well contested. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather at two of tho meetings tho attendances were good. No improvements of any magnitude were undertaken during the year, tho work carried out at Ellerslie being mainly ordinary maintenance and regrading tho training tracks where necessary. Tho financial position of the club had in consequence much improved and if equally good results were obtained during tho next few years the club might with a certain degree of confidence make a start in carrying out the improvement schema that was outlined by the committee a few years ago.

The committee regretted that the commencement of the addition to the main stand and tho erection of tho members' new stand had been so long delayed, but the financial stringency prevailing prevented it from proceeding with any large works that would involve the club in considerable indebtedness. Tho committee'?! prudence in this respect had been fully justified under existing conditions and until more prosperous times were in sight it was desirable that the existing liabilities should be cleared before launching any scheme that might very seriously hamper the club's future operations. The report and balance-sheet were adopted without discussion.

Tan Track at Ellerslle. Mr. J. C. Gleeson said ho understood that some years ago the caretaker of tho Randwick course in Sydney had made a report on the tan track at Ellerslie. While he realised that the grass tracks were among the finest in the world he hoped the committee had not lost sight of the recommendations embodied in the report. Replying, the president said the committee had sent its course manager, Mr.' A. Hill, to Randwick and he had returned with many favourable reports on the subject of his investigations and a proposal for a new tan track costing £4OOO. The committee was keeping the idea of the improvements steadily before it and it would not; regard the course as complete until that had been done. On the motion of the president, members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Sir George Clifford. Election of Officers. Sir Edwin Mitchelson and Mr. H. O. Nolan were re-elected unopposed as president and vice-president. For the five vacancies on the committee Messrs. C. A. Brown, F. Earl, K.G., W. Claud Motion, M. M. "McCallum and 0. Nicholson, retiring members, and Messrs. T. Impey and E. A. Price were nominated. The ballot resulted in the retiring members being re-elected. There were four nominations for three stewards. The retiring stewards, Messrs. M. J. Lynch, \V. C. Ring and J. A. Wynyard, were successful in the ballot. Mr. Colin W. Anderson was the other nominee.
