AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB.

PROFIT OF £625 FOR YEAR. PROCEDURE WITH MERGER. The annual report of the Auckland Trotting Club, to be presented to tho annual meeting on August 20, states that the club has had a successful year notwithstanding the adverse weather conditions experienced throughout the season. After writing off £lll2 depreciation, the profit and loss account showed a credit balance of £625 17s. Of this sum £625 had been transferred to the capital account, leaving a balance of 17s to bo carried forward. During the year the club distributed £24,960 in stakes, and members were to be congratulated upon the splendid racing and thrilling finishes, which were largely due to the efforts of the handicapper, Mr. G. Paul, junr. The club hold a special race meeting on August 30 of last year for the relief of sufferers in the earthquake districts. The meeting was a great success and resulted in £5061, which included the Government taxation, being handed 10 tho Relief Committee. It was the club's intention again to help in tho cause of distress, by holding a two days' meeting on August 30 and September 1 for the relief of unemployed, and the committee hoped that it would meet with the same support and success.

Tho committee considered it necessary to construct and lay down a cinder track for winter training, which' had been completed and was now in use, and should bo of great benefit to trainers during wet weather.

It was with much regret that the committee had to record the deaths of Messrs. James Hodgson and J. H. Martin, members of the club, and Messrs. J. Molloy and A. Hanna, former membern. The sympathy of the club had beea extended to the relatives.

The question of the merger of tho Otahuhu Trotting Club with Auckland Trotting Club was dealt with in the notices of motion to be introduced at the annual meeting. The members of the Otahubu Club had agreed to the proposal, which was considered by all to be in the best interests of trotting in general, and the committee hoped that members would view the merger in this light and unanimously pass the measure. In the event of the merger not taking place, the following nominations have been received :—For the committee: Messrs. C. J. Schnauer, Eliot R. Davis, G. E. Tansley, Norman Wade, J. McColl and G. Hodgson (retiring members). For the stewards: Messrs. W. W. Massey, S. Davenport, B. Grayson, A. J. Court, K. Rutherford'and J. W. Russell (retiring stewards). Items In Balance-sheet. The balance-sheet shows that the ievenue for the year was £65,082. The principal item was totalisator, £29,593 gross, of which the Government received £7506 in totalisator tax. In addition the Government collected £13,961 dividend tax, £1232 stakes tax, £548 amusement tax, £285 land tax and £62 income "tax, making an aggregate payment of £23,594. Nominations and acceptances yielded £4711,' members' subscriptions and entrance fees £1206, gates and stands £7699, rent £2563, privileges, dining and refreshment stalls, booth, cigars. £lBlO, race cards £1791, and interest on fixed deposits and cash at call £SOO. Apart from stakes £24,855 and Government taxes £23,594, items of expenditure included wages £1976, salaries £1544, repairs and maintenance £833, local rates and taxes £7Bl, conference levies £761, general expenses £1923, interest and accrued interest £4960, special expenses and donations £6lO, and rent to Cornwall Park trustees £SOO. After writing off depreciation £lll2, and £238 bad debts the sum of £625 was transferred to capital account, leaving 17s to be carried forward.

The assets are shown at £142,011, items being Alexandra Park £20,900, Alexandra Park buildings £14,487, main grandstand £61,766, terraces £10,061, sand track £B4l, new cinder track £490, carriage and motor paddocks, Claude Road property, cottages, Claude Road and Green Lane, and Durham Street property, £6900, fixed deposit at bank, with accrued interest. £11,642, Savings Bank deposits £763 and current account at bank £241. On tl)<3 liabilities side -the capital account stands at £76,315. and the next largest item is the 8 per cent, debenture issue of £60,000, with accrued interest £I6OO. Motions Regarding Merger. Tho president, Mr. J. Rowe, will move at tho annual meeting that the' merger of the Otahuhu Trotting Club with Uie Auckland Trotting Club be affirmed, and the trustees and committee be empowered and authorised to do all things necessary to carry the merger into effect and with power to make such variation in the terms as the committee might consider advisable. Among other motions to be moved by the president is one* making Messrs. H. 11. Mackenzie, W. C. Watts. R. L. Absolum and A. G. Mabee, life members of tho Otahuhu Club, life members of the Auckland Club. The president will propose that the committee of 14 shall comprise Messrs. J. | Rowe, G. E. Tnnsley, H. R. Mackenzie, T. J. Buxton, 11. Morpeth, W. C. Watts, J. W. Ryan, N. Wade, J. McColl, G. McMillan, F. C. Marks, A. E. Watkins. A. Twiname, and C. J. Schnauer, to hold office until August of next year, when Messrs, Tansley, McColl, Watts, Watkins, Twiname, Wade and Schnauer shall retire but shall be eligible for re-election. Mr. Rowo is to continue as president, and Messrs. Tansley and Mackenzie are to bo tho vice-presidents, until next year's annual meeting.

The following 16 stewards will be proposed Messrs. W. W. Massey, S. H. Davenport, B. Grayson, A. J. Court, I\. Rutherford, J. W. Russell, C. Mae-fa rquhar, F. C. Duvall, J. F. Shanly, E. S. Kohn, C.
