LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS.

TOUR IN AUSTRALIA.

STATEMENTS IN THE PRESS.

ANOTHER DEFEAT AT SYDNEY.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received August 4, 11.5 p.m.)

SYDNEY. August 4

The evening newspapers in Sydney say there is likely to bo a heavy loss on the New Zealand League footballers' tour and if more money is not raised the visitors will bo stranded.

The New Zealanders to-day played a return match against Metropolis at Sydney. Tho homo side won by 34 points to 22. The teams were:—

Metropolis.— McConnack, Boyle, Woods, Black, Kessey. Johnson, Lynch, Rogers, Bonning, Thornton, Pearce, Bishop and Lloyd. New Zealand. Gregory, Tittleton, Dodds, Seagar, Meyer, Pearce, Abbott, Trautvetter, Eckhoff, Clark, Timms, Dufty and Jones. Tho match . was poorly contested with indifferent handling and a lack of team work by both sides. The 2000 spectators were disappointed. Only occasionally wero there bright and enterprising individual moves. Both teams repeatedly placed themselves in advantageous positions to no purpose. Rarely wero points scored as tho outcome of concerted movements. They generally emanated from scrambles with all the ugliness of this type of play. Although tho homo side won by a comfortable margin of points there was in reality little difference between the teams.

The New Zealanders opened well and at half timo the score was:

New Zealand ;• .1 i«» 18 Metropolis ci.lo

The visitors failed to sustain their effort, though at one stage in tho second half they rallied and regained the lead: 22—21. Then Boylo relieved the tension by scoring two tries in quick succession for Metropolis, and, before time was called, a third. Two were converted.
