WOMEN'S ASPIRATIONS.
ENTRY TO PRIESTHOOD. MEMORANDUM TO BISHOPS. NO HOPE OF ITS APPROVAL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received July 29. 7.43 p.m.) LONDON. July 21). The Xcws-Chronicio says women demanded full entry to the priesthood on an equal footing with men in a. memorandum forwarded to the .Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Cosmo Gordon Lung, for consideration at the Lambeth Conference. The signatories included Muses Maude lloyden, Carol Morrison, a. woman solicitor, Drs. Eva Morton and Sybil Pratt, and Mrs. Powell, wife of a Worcestershire vicar. The most striking passage in the memorandum states: "Women are increasingly inclined to wish for the ministry of their own sex in cases of conscience, as already they seek a woman doctor for physical troubles. This need is so great that some women at present aro appealing for tho ministry of women in sacramental confession and are experiencing tho reality of absolution conferred. This unauthorised mi.iistry, however, is inadequate and undesirable from the point/ of view of order." The paper says it has the highest authority for (he statement that the memorandum lias not (lie slightest chance of being approved—the bishops will not look at it.
