THE PETROL TAX.
Sir —Will yon kindly allow me space to enter an emphatic protest against the hi« justice of the proposed increase in the petrol tax. I know there ara hundreds, thousands possibly, in tha same plight as I am. I run a car, as an absolute noetssity, but can only use it for about eight months of "the year. I have ray rates to pay. On the benzine I use I am taxed to maintain a road that I can only use for part of the year. I live three miles from the main road and the condition of the pig track to the main road is such that I have to use twice the benzine {.has I would do if I had a road. The country needs money for roads. Very good. Bat let the taxation be fair and I lor one trill not squeal. The tax should be on tho tyres. Then the speeding motorist, who does the most damage, would pay th« most. Fair Plat.
