QUEENSLAND SUGAR.
PROTECTIVE ENACTMENTS. REQUEST FOR CONTINUANCE. C'A.VBEURA. July 03. A deputation which was accompanied by the Premier of Queensland, Mr. A. E. Moore, asked the Prime Minister, Mr. J. If. Setillin, to renew tlie protective sugar agreement and the embargo against the employment of coloured labour on the cane fields. It was .staled that 300,000 acres are under cultivation, and that 90 per cent, of those employed in the industry were of British origin, whilo the sugar exported yearly reduced the adverse trade balance by nt least £2,000,000. In addition it was responsible for circulating £10,000,000 of new money in the Commonwealth each year. Mr. Scullin promised to place their re: presentations before the Cabinet.
