WORK OF Y.W.C.A.

the annual meeting.

FAREWELL TO MISS KIMURA

Tribute to Iho members of tlio board of directors and to all other workers in the Young Women's Christian Association was paid by Mrs. J. A. Bradstreet, the president, when she presided at the 44th annual meeting of the, association last evening. There were 120 women acting on committees, exclusive of tnc board of directors, and Mrs. Bradstreet expressed the indebtedness of the association to them for their voluntary services and financial assistance. Mrs. Bradstreet also spoke of the progress of the association during the past year. Ihere was harmony in the ranks, a wider international outlook had been obtained, a great spirit of service was present in tho girls and there was evidence of deep spiritual interest all through the work. Satisfaction at tho financial position as shown in this year's accounts was expressed by the treasurer, Mrs. M. Rudd. Faced last year with an overdraft of £985, tho situation had been met with courage and tho financial position was now very much improved. Tho hostel and cafeteria were both good sources of income, the former showing a credit balance of nearly £9OO and the latter a. credit balance of £lB7. Owing to the strictest economy and careful management the overdraft had been reduced to £B5l. Further rigid care would be required, however, as it was estimated in tho budget for the ensuing year that there would be a deficit of £1142, which, together with the overdraft yet remaining, made a formidable sum to be obtained. With an increased membership, however, and further co-operation between the committees, it was hoped a. further satisfactory financial position would be. revealed at the next annual meeting. A brief address touching on the, deeper and more spiritual side of the association ideals was given by Miss uki Kirnura, who has reached the end of a tour through New Zealand on behalf of the Y.W.C.A. of Japan. She greatly admired the work and the atmosphere of the association in Auckland and congratulated the members on their achievements during the 44 years of the association's existence.

Speeches of thanks and farewell to 'Miss Kimura were then made bv various representative members of the association. At the conclusion of the meeting the members of tho audience were entertained at supper, when many took advantage of the opportunity of taking personal farewell of Miss Kimura, who leaves to-day for Honolulu, where she will attend the Pan Pacific conference.

Miss Kimura was presented with a bouquet of violets on behalf of the girls of tho association and Mrs. Bradstreet reecived a bouquet of Iceland poppies. A song " Skve Boat Song," by a group of girl citizens, and a physical culture display by Miss P. Phillipps' pupils were greatly appreciated. Til*'! election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs. J. A. Bradstreet

(re-elected); members of board of directors, Mrs. F. M. Hay, Mrs. A. Peak, Miss D. Dempsey (re-elected), Mrs. J. T. F. Mitchell. Mrs. I. Bertram, Mrs.. Allen, Mrs. A. Hooton, Mrs. E. Nicoll, Mrs. A. E. Storey and Mrs. J. M. Murdoch.
