SURVEYORS' INSTITUTE.
AUCKLAND BRANCH REUNION.
The Auckland branch of (he New Zealand Institute of Surveyors hold its annual reunion and smoke social at Scots Hall, Mr. J. McKinlay presiding over a gathering of about 40 members and guests. Papers wero read by Mr. A. D. Bines on the civic survey and town plan of the City of Auckland, and by Mr. Preston Chambers, president of tho institute, on " The Ago of the Earth from a Geological Standpoint." The toast of tho visitors was replied to by Mr. J. B. G. Smith, irrigation engineer, at Lahore, India, and by Mr. T. ,J. Speedy, Surveyor-General of British North Borneo, both of whom gave most interesting descriptions of a surveyor's life in tho East. Musical items were contributed by Messrs. II E. Simmonds, M. Wells, M. Wells, jun., and G Pnorc.
