THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET DAY.

An exceptionally quiet day was experienced on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, tho volume of business being much below that of a normal Monday. Offers remained firm for Government investments although inquiry was a little slacker. Activity in local body debentures was mostly with sellers. In banks Friday's levels were for tho most part reinstated. Offers for New South Wales recorded a further advance of 10s, rising to £36 ss, with sellers raising their limits bv a similar margin to £36 15s. English, Scottish and Australians were sought Is firmer at £6 16s. Tho only insurance scrip inquired for was New Zealand, offers for which were lifted by 6d to 44s 6d, sellers asking 46s 6d. In loan dnd agency Goldsbrough-Morts wero in demand at 27s Jul, a rise of 6d over the week-end, but there were no sellers. Coals were quiet. Westpoi'ts wero wanted at 325. Tho principal business of tho day, which was all transacted at tho final call, was in gas. Aucklands changing hands 6d lower at 255, at which price further supplies wero available. Tho, contributing issuo was done at 18s 6d. the current price.

Changes wero slight in other sections of the market. Interest strengthened a sliado in goneral investments but offers remained at tho easier levels. Sanfords, which work quoted at the early call at 14s 6d, wero later sold at lis 6d, 6s 3d below the last transaction last November and the first sale since the reduction of the dividend rate from 7 to 2? per cent. .Sellers wore prepared to release more shares subsequently at 12s 6d. In mining Moanataiaris wero fold at 9d, a fall of Is on the level of the last sale in April.
