THE ADVANCING SEASON.
With the longer days and more sunshine gardening operations are already assuming a more active character. Weeds, too, are beginning to cover the surface. Violets are flowering in the greatest profusion. Narcissus, notably, the lovely Solid d'Or, are a mass of yellow blooms. Daffodils are vigorous and healthy and will soon provide a plentiful supply of flowers for garden decoration and cutting. Among shrubs or small-growing trees Acacia baileyana is a glorious mass of yellow blossom. Iris tingitana, that welcome addition to early (lowering, bulbous plants, is already adding a few blooms to the present general scarcity. Daphnes arc also in full flower. Cassias are most useful winter flowering shrubs, with their conspicuous yellow blossoms. Tho planting of hardy spring (lowering bedding plants requires attention. Ihe same remark applies to tho different shrubs, roses, herbaceous plants, and ornamental trees, flowering shrubs, etc. Finish the pruning of roses, conifer, and other hedges.
