LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS.

NEW ZEALANDERS BEATEN. MATCH IN QUEENSLAND. I Receiver] July '23. 5.55 p.m.) BRISBANE. July 23. The New Zealand Rugby League team to-day played a match against Ipswich and were defeated by 10 points to 3. The weather was fine and the ground bard. There was a poor attendance. The teams were:—

New Zealand.—Backs: Duffy, Abbott, Littleton, Pearse, Meyer, Seagar, Dodds. Forwards: C'alder, Stephenson, Clark, Griffiths, Tinims, Kckoff.

Ipswich.—Hacks: Smith, Wallis, Polio, Chigley, Porter, Doonar, Gee. Forwards: Doyle, Dcmpsey, Fraser, Thornton, Moloney. Bennett.

The visitors were somewhat sluggish, but, despite the scores, gave a better display than against Queensland. There was no score in the first 20 minutes, during which the New Zealanders threw the ball about, but encountered a stubborn defence. Then Ipswich opened their account with a penalty goal. Then Bennett scored a good try and Porter converted.

Ipswich continued to press and Thornton, from a scrum near the line, hurled himself across. Porter failed with the kick..

At half time the score was: Ipswich, JO: New Zealand, 0.

Tho second half was more even. Stephenson continued to give the visitors the ball, but there was littlo understanding among the backs. As on Saturday cohesive movements were lacking. However, 10 minutes before time the New Zealand backs combined in a fine rush of 50 yards.

The ball went lo Abbott, who ran clear of the field and touched down with supports liandy. Dufty missed the kick. Although Dufty had also failed in three penally kicks the big New Zcalander, who was playing in his third match against Ipswich, was a tower of strength, his kicking toward open spaces being cxtremelv effective.

The New Zealand forwards worked hard, Kckoff again playing a dashing game.
