Ai Merrylands a safe was blown open in a firm's oflices and £3 was stolen. The. police say they consider that the attempt on the bank was made by a gang of expert cracksmen. Only a few sellings had rewarded the men in their previous raids and this night's attempt on the bank was probably a desperate effort to replenish their funds. Oxv-acetvlene (lares were used to cut through the steel of the strongroom. after the cracksmen had smashed off the padlocks of the outer doors No one lives oil the premises and the thieves had lithe chance of detection, hut were apparent ly disturbed by a watchman or policeman on his beat, as they left without finishing of Horn- were*used to lessen (ho detonation at Merrylands after the. chaigo had been inserted in the safe door, i>« • explosion wrecked the safe and the thieves were moderately sueecsstul, Ihev found £8 in the tangled metal v.oik. Before, leaving the men gummed n number of unemployment stamps on part 01 the safe.
