AUCKLAND AIRPORT.

LOCAL BODIES' POSITION.

DISCUSSION AT MOUNT ALBERT

Conflicting opinions on the desirability of local bodies establishing a commercial air-port for Auckland was expressed at the meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council last evening. "Personally, I do not feel that tho time is yet ripe for local bodies to take action," said the Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes. "Tho Government has a fine air port which could be used if necessary as a commercial port. In any case, New Zealand towns arc not like European cities over which a network of routes crosses. For many years at least air traffic here will be onlv internal."

Mr. IT. L. Kayos expressed the opinion

that tlio Mission Swamp, in Mount Albert, could bo made into an excellent ait-port. It would bo a valuable assetto tlio district. lu any case, it was necessary lor the local bodies to adopt a progressive outlook on the question of the development of airways. The report of the City Council on the question was received and the formulation of thi> council's altitude was deferred until the meeting of the joint committee. Mr. Rhodes and Mr. J. 11. Langley were appointed delegates to the conference of local bodies to be held on July 30.
