HOW TO KEEP MAIDS.
ADVICE TO MISTRESSES. "Maids do not want to be treated as members of the family, but they do ask to be treated as human beings." This was the declaration of Miss Jessie Stephen, at tho spring conferenc of London Labour womon.
"A maid has artistic perception and aspirations just tho samo as anyone else," Miss Stephen continued, "and t. mistress has no right to give hoi infr ior sticks of furnituro or a damp room 'n the basement, or lumber room at the top of tho house."
A girl, too, needed a certain amount of liberty and rocrcntion. She wanted to dance and sing and en'oy herself. Any numbor of girls would go into service to-morrow if they could have greater liberty.
