LORRY'S FALL DOWN BANK.
FATALITY NEAR ROTORUA.
INQUEST ON MAORI CHILD.

An inquest was opened to-day concerning the death of the Maori child Maniapoto Tukoraka, who was killed on Saturday night as the result of a motorlorry falling 100 ft. down a bank on the Rotorua-Taupo Road. After evidence of identification had been taken tho hearing .was adjourned.
The lorry, which was driven by Kera Wharekawa, was proceeding to the camp near tho 11-mile peg on tho Taupo Road, when it encountered difficulty with some loose metal. A forest guard, Mr. E. Bollworthy, who was passing in a motorcar, was appealed to for help, and succeeded in towing tho lorry to a safe place. Ho then agreed to go slowly ahead,_ with the lorry following. After travelling about two miles he heard a crash, and on investigating found that the accident had occurred.
