HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

The following weather forecast for 24 Lours from 7 a.m. to-day was Bupplied by Mr H M. Vincent last evening:— The extensivo westerly depression still controls Dominion conditions, and another wave of low barometric pressure is crossing New Zealand. Expect unsettled weather generally, with rain in most dis tricts, and heavy in places near the west coast of both islands. Hail and thunder aro likely in western areas. North-wes-terly winds, strong and squally, backing temporarily to south-west. Rough seas on the west coast. Local outlook: Squally, with intermittent heavy rain. Cold temperatures. A temporary improvement is expected after about 12 hours.

GOVERNMENT REPORT. Tho Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —A depression crossed Now Zealand yesterday, but a secondary one in tho Tasman Sea lias deepened since yesterday, nnd became cyclonic in form at 4 p.m. It was centred west of Cook Strait. Indications are for variable winds, at first over the North Island, moderate to strong south-easterlies to southorlies thence southwards and Eoutherlics becoming general by morning and reaching gale forco in places. Seas becoming rough generally. Strong southerly winds to gales and rough seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. The weather will bo cold and unsettled, with fairly general rain. Some heavy falls, especially in the North Island. Snow in tho highlands, also on parts of the low levels of the South Island. RAINFALL RECORD.
