A fire at 2.50 on Sunday morning destroyed a 10-roomed dwelling at Kokotau, owned and occupied by Mr. James Scott, a fanner. Mr. Scott was absent in Wellington at the time, and the occupants, Messrs. J. and M. Scott, his two sons; Mr. and Mrs. McNab and a child, had only time to grab their clothes and c-scape from the house.

The insurance 011 the house was £I2OO, and on the contents £540.
