DESTRUCTION BY FIRE.
LARGE HOUSE BURNED. EARLY MORNING OUTBREAK. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] CARTERTON, Monday. A fire at 2.50 on Sunday morning destroyed a 10-roomed dwelling at Kokotau, owned and occupied by Mr. James Scott, a fanner. Mr. Scott was absent in Wellington at the time, and the occupants, Messrs. J. and M. Scott, his two sons; Mr. and Mrs. McNab and a child, had only time to grab their clothes and c-scape from the house.
The insurance 011 the house was £I2OO, and on the contents £540.

Fire destroyed a four-roomed bouse in Eastbourne, owned by Mr. J. J. Ilarle. of Wellington, who was staying there for the week-end with a friend. Both men escaped scantily clad before the building burst into flames. The insurance on the house was £SOO, and on the contents £2OO, in the Guardian OfTice. NO WATER SUPPLY AVAILABLE.

A cai driven Liy Mr. C. 1\ Ward, of Ilurworth, burst into flames on Egrnont Ro.it] last evening, the driver having a narrow escape. The car bad been giving trouble and Mr. Ward had gone to Kaimiro for a mechanic. On returning Mr. Ward stepped into the car, from which two passengers had alighted, while the mechanic cranked I lie engine. Mr. Ward heard a roar and had just time to jump out as tlie ear caught fire. It was badly damaged. •' LARGE HOUSE BURNED.
BUILDING NEAR TAURANGA

A large house at Judea, near Tauranga, owned by Mr. J. London, was destroyed by fire yesterday. The fire had a good hold when discovered. The building was insured for £BOO in the Alliance Office. It was being renovated in readiness for a new tenajit.
