A WORLD'S RECORD.

Sir,—Enough has not been said of the splendid butter-fat record of 318.421b. of fat per cow from 1113 cows in 281 days, an average of 1861b. of fat per acre, just established by the Ngarua farmers. The average per cow for New Zealand is about 2001b. per cow, and every ten-pound increase per cow means a gain of. £1,000,000 in our export trade. Experts tell us iiiey can see the time ahead when the average per cow will be 3001b. of fat. Now, here lies the solution of our unemployment problems, instead of trying temporary measures which cannot bring the country back to prosperity. Lot us increase our revenue, not by taxation or putting men on unbroken conntry, to burden the country with borrowing to break it in. Look to the land which is producing far from what it is capable of, as the Ngarua farmers are showing us. Let us give a little less attention to sport, which, after all, is not the standard by which wo are judged in the financial markets of the world. We are judged by our ability to produce a high standard of goods "in the most economic way, and that is by increased production per cow and per acre, and this can only be attained by careful use of fertilisers, herd-testing and breeding.
