STOCKS AND SHARES.

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.

LOWER LEVELS !N BANKS.

Quiet conditions existed on the Auckland Stock Exchange at the opening of tho week yesterday. Buying strength weakened for Government investments, oilers shading up to 5s in several instances. War Bonds and Inscribed Stock, per cent., 1938, were quoted at £99 15s. For the bonds buyers reinstated their offers of £99 10s, after a lapso to £99 5s at tho early call, but buying limits were roduced in the case- of tho Inscribed Stock by 5s to £99 ss. Lower levels prevailed in banks. A drop of 27s 6d was registered by New South \yalcs, which changed hands at £36, at which price moro wero available. New Zealands were obtained at 565, which was Is 3d below tho level of tho last local transaction. Sellers wero prepared to release further supplies at tho same figure. Commercials of Australia were wanted 2d easier at 20s 10d, sellers asking 21s Id. Sale took place after tho last call unchanged at 21s. In insurance New Zealands were secured at 465, a fall of Is 3d.

Loan and agency shares were littlo changed. Tbo unaltered prico of 20s was paid for Dominion Investment and Banking?. Offers for Goldsbrough-Morts eased 2d to 26s lOd, and the preference issue of Newton Kings was vainly sought at 12s. Interest was fairly well maintained in shipping. In breweries buyers offered 48s for New Zealands, which were obtainable at 49s 9d.

In gonoral investments support was weak for Australian investments, several lending stocks failing to receive any inquiry. Two parcels of Bycrofts wcro done at tho current price, 345, without requirements being fulfilled. Grey and Menzies had sale at lis. The last sale of this scrip took place last September at lis 3d. In mining offers for Ohinomuris were lifted from 2d to 9d. Sellers asked 2s 6d. Waihis were wanted unchanged at tho lower level of 13s 9d. A deal in Okaritos was recorded at 7s without further quotations. CLOSING QUOTATIONS. Buyers. Sellers. £ a d J; a d BANKS. Aus. of Commerce . .
