PETITION OF MUNN.
CONSIDERATION DEFERRED.
MINISTERS NOT PREPARED.
DECISION EXPECTED THIS WEEK.
[BY TEEEGRAFH. —SPECIAL REPORTER.'] WELLINGTON. Monday.
No steps havo yet been taken by the Executive Council to deal with tlio petition of Arthur Thomas Munn, who is under sentence of death for the minder of his wife at Northcoto last February. It was expected that the Executive Council meeting to-day would deal with the petition, but this was not done. It is probable, however, that a special meeting of the Executive Council will be held this week to determine the matter.
Tho Minister of Justice, tho Hon. J. G. Cobbe, stated to-day that all tho papers in the case, including the Judge's report, tho report of the Solicitor-General, and the depositions of tho trial had been in his possession sinco last Friday. "It had been hoped to obtain the decision of tho Executive Council this morning, but all members of tho Cabinet had not yet had an opportunity of fully examining tho papers, and I want them to do so before the matter comes up for final determination," said tho Minister. "Probably a special meeting of the Executive Council will bo held this week to deal with the petition."
