ARCTIC AIR ROUTE.
BRITAIN AND GREENLAND. RUMOURED PURCHASE PLAN. (Received July 20, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON. July 19. There are persistent rumours that Britain is seeking to purchase Greenland from Denmark,' in whole or in part. No official confirmation can be obtained of any actual negotiations, but diplomatic and official circles at Washington are exhibiting keen interest in the matter. It is recognised that Greenland will have an important bearing on the proposed British air route over the Arctic arid it is believed that an extension of British treaty rights to Greenland would be at least an important consideration.
