MOTORING ACCIDENTS.

INJURED MAN RUN OVER. STRUCK BY SECOND VEHICLE. DEATH OCCURS IN HOSPITAL. NEW LYNN RESIDENT'S FATE. The death occurred in the Auckland Hospital at an early hour yesterday morning of Mr. Ilcnry Mason, aged 66, whoso home was in Archibald Road, New Lynn. Mr. Mason was struck by a motor-cvclo and side-car as he was walking at the side of the Great North Road at New Lynn tho previous evening find it is stated that ho was also run over by ii light motor-truck as he was lying unconscious on tho road. Mr. Mason had been in the city during the afternoon and returned homo by motor-bus, alighting at the corner of Wattle Street and the Great North Road in New Lynn. With a woman companion he set out to walk to Archibald Road tiud was on the edge of the concrete portion of the road, facing the traffic. There is 31 footpath at this point. After proceeding for some distance Mr. Mason was struck by the side-car of a motor-cycle ridden by Mr. Irani-: Taylor, of 7, Gardner Road, Epsom, who was returning to town from Henderson. At tho time there; was a motor-lorry coming from the Opposite direction. Mr. lavlor stopped his machine and ran back, finding Mr. Mason lying unconscious on the road. Another man, Mr. David Prow, of New Lynn, had just passed Mr. Mason and ho heard the impact. He also ran back and Mr. Taylor left him with the unconscious man while he rodo away to obtain assistance. Mr. Prow later informed the police that as he was standing by Mr. Mason he heard a motor-lorry approaching him. He attempted to warn the driver, but the vehicle came straight on and passed over Mr. Mason's legs. Mr. Prow stated that the lorry did not Etop and that lie was not able to obtain the registration number.

Meanwhile an ambulance had been summoned, while Constable Poag, of New Lynn, was informed. The injured man on admission was found to have a fracture of the skull, a compound fracture of both legs and a fracture of one arm. He was admitted about 6.45 p.m. and died at '1.35 a.m. yesterday. Wood, who lives at Manurewa, was struck by a motor-car which was travelling in the same direction. He was knocked down heavily on the concrete roadway, and received sovcre injuries to the head. The driver of the car took Mr. Wood to a private hospital, where he was attended by Dr. W. C. Bridgman, who ordered his removal to the Auckland Hospital. At a late hour last evening Mr. Wood's condition was stated to bo fairly serious.

MOTOR-CYCLIST HURT. COLLISION WITH SMALL CAR. Serious injuries to the hear] were received by a motor-cyclist, Mr. William Charles Purely, aged 21, a /ingle man, when the machine he was riding came in collision with a small motor-car in Pitt Street at 7.30 on Saturday evening. Mr. Purdy, who lives at 71, Nelson Street, wns thrown heavily. Ho was taken by tlia St. John AmLulanco to tho Auckland Hospital, where ho was reported last evening to bo in a seiious condition. PEDESTRIAN KNOCKED DOWN. MINOR INJURIES RECEIVED. Eavlv on Saturday evening a pedestrian, Mr. Archibald Wilson, aged 45, a mar ried man living at 61, Vermont Street, Ponsonby, was struck by a motor-car when he was crossing tho road at the intersection of Ilobson Street and Weilesley Street, lie received scalp wounds and was taken to tho hospital by the ambulance, but his condition is not consicerea to bo serious.
