A well-known Maori, Kaponga Kahu, aged 65, was drowned at Waipiro Bay this afternoon. He had been crayfishing and set his pots and returned to the shore.
Later ho saw that his dinghy had drifted out and swam out to get it, but apparently was overtaken by cramp, for he sank a little way from the shore.
