SALE OF AIR STAMPS.
Stamp collectors, by buying up special issues <jf stamps, have twice prevented tho Tan-American airways lrom carrying mails to the United States of America. Wlicn tho service began the Government of Costa Rica surcharged 66,000 stamps of various denominations for use with the air mail. The entire lot was purchased before the first mail trip was made. Only 4000 letters were despatched on this first trip, and it lias been estimated that less than one-tenth of tho issue was actually used for postage. The Government has now surcharged 1,000.000 more stamps, but ns the collectors and dealers have large orders, this number is not expected to last for very long.
