A COMMAND PERFORMANCE.
The Royal vaudeville performance at the London Palladium recently was a tremendous success, realising over £3700. The King and Queen had a great reception when they arrived. Outside the Palladium there was a vast crowd, which thronged the adjoining thoroughfares, and remained until the Royal visitors left at the close. Inside the crowd waited expectantly. When George Clark nearly drove his humping motor-car over the footlights the Queen started swaying to and fro with merriment, states the writer. Sho tapped the King's shoulder, too excited to notice that he was laughing too. When Gillie Potter talked about "fvsho and chypse," which the Queen seemed to understand, sho was carried away with merriment. When ho told how they lay off Southend, hut after a timo they lay on Southend, and when he described Southend's pier as " something that led into the interior" the Queen obviously Knew how far Southend is sometimes from the sea. ' When the Queen laughs she moves to and fro in her seat; the King usually applauds with the tips of his fingers.
