MUSIC EXAMINATIONS.
TRINITY COLLEGE RESULTS. PRESENTATION OF MEDALS. Tho successful candidates in tho examinations conducted in Auckland during the last three weeks on behalf of the Trinity College of Music, London, were presented with their medals at the Lewis Eady Hall yesterday. Mr. A. L. Stedman, local secretary for the college, presided over a large attendance. In presenting the medals. Dr. J. E. Borland, of London, who was the examiner, congratulated Auckland on the high average standard displayed by its musical students. Ho suggested that not enough attention was paid by candidates to what he termed " sido lines." While many pupils played extremely well and won honours marks for their pieces, they frequently lost marks for such things as scales, ear tests and general knowledge. There was also need, in tho higher local grados, of a greater command of musicianship, apart from mere technical accomplishment. Medals were awarded as follows: Pianoforte.—Licentiate diploma, Phyllis Purchase; higher local, Lenore Pigott; senior, Patrick Towsey; intermediate, Violet Hinglev; junior, Dorothy Franchi; preparatory, Nancy Francis; first steps, Gwon Beare.
Elocution.—Higher local, James R. Ferguson; senior, Gwen W. McNaughton; preparatory, Isabel M. Henderson. Violin. —Preparatory, Olive Harris. Tho winners contributed items after receiving their medals.
