KILLED BY MOTOR-CAR.
DRIVER NOT TO BLAME. FATALITY AT TE RAPA. [nr IXLEGIiAi'II. —OWN COIIKESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Thursday. An inquest was held to-day concerning tins death of John William Clegg, aged 61, a retired butcher, of To Rapa, vho was knocked down by a motor-car driven by Walter McDonald, fanner, of Taupiri, on the Main South Road at 'J'e Rapa on June 12, The coroner was Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M. Evidence was given by a youth, Kenneth Charles Moore, that Clegg had assisted him to load a lorry of hay on the date of tho accident. Deceased waited until the lorry had passed through a gate ou to tho main road and, after shutting the gate, ran across the road to the lorry, .which witness had pulled up. Two motor-cars approached in opposite directions and one struck Clegg and killed him.

stj uck. Walter McDonald said lie left Hamilton to return to Taupiri at 4 p.m At To Itapa he saw on the road a stationary lorry with an overhanging load of bay. Approaching him was a motor-car. 1 1.0 slowed down and sounded his liovn, for he diil not know which way the lorry would go if it moved and he had to watch the approaching car. .Vs he passed the lorry deceased ran from behind the other car, in front of witness* vehicle and was struck before vitness could pull up Deceased died in :t few minutes from his injuries. The coroner, described the happening r.s accidental and said McDonald was not to blame, A verdict of accidental Cir.iih was returned.
