WILHELM BACKHAUS.
Booking arrangements for the Wilhelm Backhaus season are advertised. On his former visit to Now Zealand, Backhaus ,not only created a furore with his mag'nificent artistry, but also aroused a feeling of genuine affection in, the, hearts of, his auditors as a result of his obvious 'sincerity and humanity. Possibly' no visiting celebrity has "ever made a more thorough conquest of New Zealand , than has Backhaus, and it is a foregone con-, elusion that Auckland's music-lovers will give him a great welcome back next Thursday night, at the first of his three rocitals in the Town Hall. The following numbers have been selected by Mr.' Backhaus for his opening programme:— "Italian Concerto" (Bach), "Sonata Op. 31, No. 3," in E flat major (Beethoven), "Sonata in E Flat, Op. 81"' (Beethoven), "Four Studios from Op/ 10'' ! (Chopin);' "Nocturne in B Major, Op. 62" (Chopin),' "Prelude in E Flat Major" (Chopin), "Waltz in D Flat Major, Op, 64" (Chopin), "Scherzo in C Sharp Minor" (Chopin), "Don Juan Serenade" (MozartBackhaus), "Liebestraume"- (Liszt), and "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2" (Lisst).
