BREACH OF GAMING ACT.
TRANSACTIONS AT ELLERSLIE.
" It seems difficult to go on to a racecourse without contravening somo gaming law," said Mr. Bryco Hart, counsel for Neville' F. Basham, who was charged in the Police Court yesterday with laying totalisator odds.
" Accused is a silver bettor," said Chief Detective Hammond. "He was seen to be taking small bets 'on the hill' at Ellerslie during the winter meeting."
Mr: Hart said that accused had been with a party of friends and tickets were being " mado tip " between them. Finding tho favourites at low prices, accused held the money.
