WORKERS' HOUSES.
QUESTION OF CONCESSIONS.
ACTION BY CITY COUNCIL.
In pursuance of a resolution passed by the City Council three weeks ago regarding concessions to owners of workers' dwellings erected at Grey Lynn, the Finance Committee of the council reported on Thursday evening that it had obtained reports from the city treasurer on the financial position regarding each dwelling, from the city engineer regarding the cost of necessary repairs in each case and from the city solicitor on the question whether the unexpended balance, £3945, of the workers' homes loan could lawfully be used for making repairs to the houses. The city solicitor reported that to do so the council would have to procure special legislation. The committee recommended that steps bo taken accordingly and that the work be proceeded with as soon as it could legally be done. It also proposed that all accounts for overdue redemption pay ments, rents and rates be handed to the city solicitor for recovery.
